Women's tennis downs Barton while men stumble

Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville women’s tennis earned its first win of the season with a 5-4 victory over Barton on Friday while the men dropped a 6-3 decision to the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs looked to be on their way to a win over NGU after double’s play as they took two of the three matches. NGU’s only tandem win came from Camille Duhan and Fernanda de Lucca who earned an 8-6 victory. Christina Kiessling and Kylie Sandusky fell 8-7 while Faith Moyers and Graysen Elms dropped an 8-4 decision.

Christina Kiessling responded to her double’s play loss by setting the tone in singles. Kiessling evened the total score tally with a 6-1/1-6/6-1 victory in her solo match. The Bulldogs would earn wins in the second and third positions though putting North Greenville in a 4-2 hole

North Greenville’s players responded under pressure swiping the final three singles matches to take the win. Sandusky earned a 6-4/6-1 win while Faith Moyers earned a 6-4/6-2. Graysen Elms earned the winning point in the sixth position with a 6-2/6-0 win.

The men’s team took a 2-1 lead after double’s play with Barton. Alejandro de la Torre and Dion Nijbor got things started with an 8-7 victory while Jose Gomez and William Greaves followed them up with an 8-6 win. The Bulldogs got one point in the third double’s position with an 8-3 win over Sjors van Eck and Austin Schlarb.

Barton rebounded in the singles sets taking three of the first four matches. Van Eck fell 7-6/3-6/7-6 while de la Torre and Jose Gomez dropped 6-1/6-1 and 7-6/6-3/6-0 decisions. NGU’s lone win in Singles came from Dion Nijbor who earned a 6-1/6-3 victory in solo play.

William Greaves lost his singles set 6-4/6-2 while Edmundo Torres fell 6-2/6-2.

The women improved to 1-6 on the season while the men’s team dropped to 1-7. The Crusaders will host Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon at 12pm.
