Tigerville, S.C. -- The North Greenville men’s tennis team dropped its senior day match to the King Tornados by a score of 7-2.
King swept the doubles matches and took complete control of the day early. Sjors van Eck and Sergio Araujo were no match for the number one singles at King, dropping the first match of the day by a score of 8-2. Jose Gomez and Alejandro de la Torre followed suit, losing 8-4, followed by a dropped match by Marcelo Yshikawa and Edmundo Torres.
The Crusaders got a point back, however, at the start of the singles matches. Van Eck was able to knock off the number one player at King in a tightly contested match by a score of 7-5, 7-6(6). Araujo, Gomez, de la Torre and Yshikawa each were not able to keep the momentum going as they all recorded losses in the singles portion of the afternoon. Despite knowing the overall match was over, Torres recorded a valiant win in the final match of the day, taking the victory in an incredibly tight third set by a score of 7-6(1), 3-6, 15-13.
The loss drops the Crusaders to 6-10 overall and 4-4 in Conference Carolinas play.
Their next match takes place at home on Friday, April 22, as the Crusaders take on undefeated, league-leading Pfeiffer University. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
