North Greenville edges Emmanuel

Franklin Springs, GA - North Greenville men's tennis improved to 2-0 in Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday with a 5-4 win over Emmanuel College.

The Crusaders won just one doubles set as Sergio Araujo and Jose Gomez won their tandem match 8-6. NGU trailed 2-1 heading into singles play as the Lions earned wins of 8-7 and 8-3.

Sjors van Eck got singles play off on the right foot as his 6-2/6-0 win evened the overall tally at 2-2. Araujo would follow van Eck with a 2-6/6-4/6-4 win to give the Crusaders the 3-2 lead. Another win from Jose Gomez would give North Greenville the 4-2 lead with three more singles matches left to play.

Things would get interesting as the Lions earned the next two victories to even the score at 4-4. Edmundo Torres would lock-up NGU's second conference win though as he earned a 5-7/6-2/6-2 win in the deciding set.

The Crusaders have little time to rest as they travel to Jefferson City, Tennessee tomorrow afternoon to take on Carson Newman College at 2pm.
