Tigerville, S.C.—The NGU women's team set a new school record for Conference Carolinas wins on Saturday with a 6-3 win over Barton while the NGU men's team dropped its second straight league match in a 7-2 loss to the Bulldogs.
North Greenville earned 2-1 lead after doubles play taking the second and third doubles sets with 8-6 and 8-2 wins. Camille Duhan and Christina Kiessling evened up the score a 1-1 while Aline Ribeiro and Ann Hayden Huxford gave the Crusaders a 2-1 lead.
Barton evened the score at 2-2 with a win to open up singles play, but Maria Vargas would get NGU back on track with a 3-6/6-3/10-6 win. Duhan would give NGU a 4-2 lead while Ribiero clinched the win for NGU with a 6-2/6-1 win. Ann Hayden Huxford would cap the day with a 6-1/6-0 singles win. The Crusaders improved to 6-2 in league play.
The NGU men struggled for the second match in a row, as the Bulldogs held the Crusaders at bay. Sergio Araujo and Jose Gomez gave NGU its only win in doubles play with a 9-7 win in the first group as Barton carried a 2-1 lead into singles play.
The Crusaders got just one more win in singles as Gomez earned the 7-6/6-0 win for NGU's only solo win of the day. The Crusaders fell to 6-2 in Conference Carolinas play but are still in the running for one of the top few seeds in the league playoffs.
NGU will travel to Pfeiffer University on April sixth for a men's and women's match with the Falcons scheduled to start at 1pm.
