Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville University men's and women's teams both showed up ready to play on Saturday, March the 7th, dominating in their second conference match against Emmanuel College. Both men's and women's tennis matches were clean sweeps with Crusaders winning 9-0 for both tennis teams.
The men's doubles teams started out slow in the beginning and were losing the first couple of games against the Emmanuel Lions, but then they picked up the pace and won 3-0 overall. The momentum continued going in the Crusaders favor throughout the men's singles matches. Despite a shoulder injury to the Crusaders' number 2 player, Sergio Araujo, he pulled through and won his match 7-5, 6-4. Jose Gomez was the last to finish his singles match and closed the overall match score against the Lions 9-0. The men's tennis team is currently 2-0 in their conference matches.
Number 1 women's doubles team, Maria Vargas and Rebecca Beacham, started their doubles play by losing the first 3 games against the Lions, but gradually began to pick up their pace and finished by bringing a point to the women's tennis team by beating the Lions 8-6. The women's tennis team completed their doubles matches at 3-0 and had a great lead against the Lions as they began singles matches. The women's tennis players dominated in their singles matches and brought home their first conference win by beating the Lions 9-0.
The Crusaders will be playing their next home tennis match at Vance Tennis Complex on Wednesday, March the 18th, against Carson-Newman College at 2:00pm.
