Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville University men's tennis team won their first home conference match, beating Erskine College 7-2. Last year Erskine won 5-4, so today was a tremendous accomplishment and great way to start conference play for the NGU's men's team.
Crusaders took two out of three doubles at the beginning. Sergio Araujo and Jose Gomez lost at #1 doubles 9-7 against one of the top doubles team in the Carolinas Conference. Sjors van Eck and Marcelo Yshikawa at #2 position brought a point for the Crusaders beating Erskine 8-3. Number 3 doubles team, Santiago Robles and Alejandro de la Torres, brought the second point for Crusaders after winning 8-2 over Erskine Flying Fleet.
The Crusaders took five of six singles, which brought solidified their first conference win of the season. First, Sjors van Eck beat number one Erskine player 6-4, 6-1 together with Marcelo Yshikawa that brought another point for the Crusaders. Erskine took only one point from Crusaders, where Santiago Robles lost at the number 4 poistion 6-1, 4-6, 11-9. Jose Gomez, Sergio Araujo, and Santiao Robles were the next players that beat the Flying Fleet players.
The Crusaders will be playing their next home conference match at Vance Tennis Complex on Saturday, March 7th, against Emmanuel College at 12:00pm.
