Tigerville, S.C.—The NGU Men's Tennis Team fell to 1-1 on the season on Monday after a 6-3 loss to Division I Wright State University.
North Greenville started off strong taking two of three double's matches. Sergio Araujo and Jose Gomez got the day started off with a win for North Greenville, an 8-4 win in the first doubles group. Wright State would claim victory in the second match as Sjors van Eck and Marcelo Yshikawa dropped their doubles game 8-1. Santiago Robles and Alejandro de la Torres would pick up the slack however, taking an 8-6 win in their tandem match to give NGU a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
North Greenville would struggle in singles play however, dropping five of the six frames. North Greenville's lone singles win would come from van Eck who won the second singles match 6-4/0-6/6-2. Santiago Robles would drop a pair of games 6-2/6-2 While de la Torres lost his singles game 6-3/6-0. NGU had two other sets go in a tie breaker, coming up short in both as Sergio Araujo lost 5-7/6-4/9-11 and Jose Gomez lost 6-3/1-6/4-6. Marcello Yshikawa fell 1-6/1-6.
The Crusaders will be back in action on March 4th at Francis Marion at 2:30 before returning home to open Conference Carolinas play, March 6th against Erskine College.
