CRUSADERS OPEN FALL SEASON WITH SOLID PERFORMANCE AT CONFERENCE INDIVIDUALS

Sumter, S.C.—The North Greenville men’s tennis team played in its first fall tournament of the 2013-2014 season this weekend at the Conference Carolinas Individual Tournament.

The Crusaders turned in a solid performance over the weekend, lead by Sjors van Eck who advanced to the semi-finals of the Bracket B singles tournament. Eck scaved off elimination in the first round winning a three set decision (6-3, 5-7, 6-2) over Brandon Lane from Lees McRae. Eck turned in a 6-0; 6-1 win in round two and a 6-3; 6-4 win in the quarterfinals before dropping the semi-final match 6-4; 6-2.

Also in Bracket B for the Crusaders was Sergio Araujo Filho who turned in a quarterfinal finish. Filho won his first mach 6-3; 6-3 and his second match 6-1; 7-6. In Bracket C, North Greenville’s Juan Vargas suffered an early exit losing in the second round, but performed admirably in the consolation bracket advancing to the Semifinals (Bracket C consolation final not played).

The Crusaders turned in a set of round one double’s victories in the double’s play tournaments but were unable to advance past the second round. The Crusaders will wrap up the fall portion of their schedule on October fifth with matches against Presbyterian College and Coker College also in Sumter.
