Greer, S.C.—Men’s tennis continued its most successful Conference Carolinas season since joining the league on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Lees-McRae Bobcats 9-0 to improve to 5-2 in league play, and 9-8 overall in 2014.
The Crusaders dominated Saturday’s match from the first serve, setting the tone with a 3-0 sweep of doubles play. Jose Gomez and Rafael Lenz got the day underway with a dominant 8-0 win in the first doubles, while Sergio Araujo and Santiago Robles followed them up with an 8-3 triumph in the second doubles position. Completing the sweep for NGU was Sjors van Eck and Marcelo Yshikawa, who won 8-6.
NGU carried its momentum into the singles play. Jose Gomez kicked off singles play with a dominant 6-1/6-2 win to give the Crusaders a 4-0 lead, putting them firmly in the drivers season. Jose Gomez’s win was followed up by Rafael Lenz, who clinched the win with a 6-1/6-4 win, making the overall tally 5-0. Also getting in on the winning action for NGU was Sjors van Eck, Sergio Araujo, and Santiago Robles. Sjors van Eck made the tally 6-0 with a 6-3/6-0 win, while Sergio Araujo and Santiago Robles won 6-1/6-3 and 4-6/6-3/10-7.
Jonathan Stanga completed the North Greenville sweep with an impressive 6-1/6-1 win in the final singles position. The Crusaders will return to the court on April 15th against Spartanburg Methodist College. NGU will wrap up the 2014 regular season the following day with a match against Erskine College.
