Greer, S.C.—The North Greenville men’s tennis team fell to 8-8 on the season on Thursday evening, falling to the seventh ranked Lander Bearcats 9-0, in non-conference tennis action at the Greer Tennis Center.
The Bearcats flexed their muscles early, sweeping the doubles competition to take a quick 3-0 lead in the overall point standings. Rafael Lenz and Jose Gomez fought but fell short, dropping their pairs competition 8-5, while Sergio Araujo and Santiago Robles fell 8-1. The Bearcats completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Sjors van Eck and Marcelo Yshikawa.
The day didn’t get any better for the Crusaders in singles play, as Lander continued its solid play. The Bearcats swept through singles play, as NGU players won just one point in all six games. The Crusaders only win of the day came from Rafael Lenz who took a 6-1 win in the second set of his match. Rafael Lenz would fall however to Marc Holder in two other sets 7-6 and 10-7.
Also falling in singles play was Jose Gomez who lost 6-2/6-1, Sjors van Eck who dropped a 6-3/6-0 decision, Sergio Araujo and Santiago Robleswho lost 6-1/6-0, and Jonathan Stanga who lost 6-0/6-3. The Crusaders will return to the court on Saturday when they welcome Lees-McRae to Greer for the final home Conference Carolinas match of the 2014 season.
