Greer, S.C.—The North Greenville men’s tennis team came through in a big way on Tuesday night, ending a five game skid with a 5-4 win over Lincoln Memorial University, last year's South Atlantic Conference Champions, at Greer Country Club.
The Crusaders and Railsplitters split the singles competition 3-3, picking up wins from Rafael Lenz Gonzalez who won his singles match 6-4/6-3, Sjors van Eck who cruised to a 6-1/6-3, and Sergio Araujo Filho who rounded out the singles wins with a 7-6/5-7/6-1 win. Jose Daniel Gomez Castillo dropped his singles match in three sets falling 7-6/3-6/2-6.
NGU came through big in the doubles taking two of the three games. Sergio Araujo Filho and Andres Santiago Robles Camacho took their doubles frame 8-4, while Sjors van Eck and Marcelo Yshikawa secured NGU’s first win of the season with an 8-5 victory over their LMU counterparts.
NGU is now 1-5 on the season, and will look to win two matches in a row tomorrow with a road match against Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. First serve between the Terriers and Crusaders is scheduled for 2:30pm.
