Men's and Women's Tennis Season Wrap-Up

Tigerville, SC – North Greenville University men’s and women’s team finished their season strong, pulling out some great victories against strong tennis teams. The men’s tennis team finished their season with the record 4-13, while the women’s tennis team finished with the record 7-13 under new coach, Tomas Kurhajec.

“We started our season slow but have improved with each match,” said Kurhajec. The Lady Crusaders finished up their season by qualifying for the Conference Carolinas Tennis Tournament in Sumter, South Carolina, where they came close to defeating the #2 women’s tennis team, Limestone college, but were defeated after a hard fight and ending with the score of 5-4. “ Our team played incredibly well during that match. I saw my players fighting for every point in their matches till it was over. My team proved to the other teams there what it meant to fight hard till the end,” said Kurhajec.

Both teams had difficult schedules this season. They played against some nationally ranked tennis teams, such as Lander University, Francis Marion University, USC Aiken, etc. “I really believe that playing with strong tennis teams made us stronger because we gained experience from playing against nationally ranked players,” said Kurhajec.

“We are losing five seniors this season; therefore, recruiting new players has and will be my main focus over the summer,” said Kurhajec. Though these seniors will be greatly missed by their teammates and coach, Coach Kurhajec mentioned that he is excited to see how the Lord will use them in the future. As for now, the remaining players will begin conditioning on their own and training during the summer in preparation for next season. “Though our season did not finish as strong as we had hoped, we are already gearing up for next season and hope to start out stronger, practice harder, and expand the tennis program within the new tennis facility that the players are excited to practice and play their home matches on.”

After countless struggles at the beginning of the season it was hard to see that we would have a good season.
