CRUSADERS EARN FIRST WIN OF 2013 IN ROUTE OF UVA WISE
Greer, S.C.—The North Greenville men’s tennis team earned its first win of the 2013 season on Friday afternoon with a convincing 7-2 victory over the Cavaliers of UVA Wise.
Hugo Ciarrocchi and Juan Vargas got the day started for NGU scoring an 8-3 win over UVA Wise’s Akimenko and Huff for their first win of the season. Sergio Araujo Filho and Guilherme Ferreria gave the Crusaders a 2-0 lead with their second doubles win of the season, an 8-1 decision over Kappychenko and Cupp. Wise’s only doubles win of the day came on an 8-5 win over North Greenville’s James Klempin and John Melson.
Wise tied the game up at 2-2 at the start of singles play, after the Cavaliers’#1 Vlad Akimenko took out NGU’s #1 Hugo Ciarrocchi in three sets, 3-6/6-3/0-6. North Greenville would then win three consecutive games, securing the win. Guilherme Ferreira regained a 3-2 advantage for NGU when he defeated Oleg Kopychenko 6-4/6-2. He was followed up by Juan Vargas and Sergio Araujo Filho who won their matches 6-3/7-6/6-5 and 6-1/6-0. James Klempin and John Melson were also victorious in their singles endeavours with wins of 5-7/6-0/10-7 and 4-6/6-
The Crusaders are now 1-3 on the season, with a looming match against Lincoln Memorial scheduled for February 19th, at 2pm at Greer Tennis Center.
