CRUSADERS STRUGGLE AGAINST NATIONALLY RANKED MOUNT OLIVE
Mount Olive gave up no more than four games and the nationally 46th-ranked Trojans swept North Greenville 9-0 in Conference Carolinas men's tennis Friday afternoon at the Walker Tennis Center, leaving Tomas Kurhajec searching for his first win as head coach.
The Trojans (1-0 Overall, 1-0 CC), coming off the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance a year ago, was dominant in their season-opener. Top singles player Edgar Bub, ranked number 17 in the ITA Division II Men's Tennis Southeast Rankings, cruised past Hugo Ciarrocchi 6-1, 6-0. Later in the afternoon, Bub joined Henric Falkenberg in an 8-1 win over Ciarrocchi and Juan Vargas. Falkenberg defeated Guiherme Ferreira 6-2, 6-0 at number two singles.
Gabriel Santana cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number three singles, while Stanley Roffe, Brahm Moolman and Jack Frampton followed suit for Mount Olive. North Greenville (0-2, 0-2) fared little better in doubles play. Santana/Roffe and Moolman/Frampton won for the Trojans.
The Crusaders have little time to rest, as they return to the court on Saturday for a match with Barton College.
