Shelby, NC – Men’s tennis suffers back-to-back blows from NCAA Division I schools: Gardner Webb and Longwood University. NGU lost 7-0 to both schools.
“It was a tough day,” said Coach Mark Elliot. “The boys played really, really well and worked really, really hard – but both teams were Division I and some really tough competition.”
Several of the men had some very close matches. Two of the doubles matches went 14 sets, each ending in a disappointing 8-6. Number six slot, Jacob Rogers, lost his singles match against Gardner Webb in a tiebreaker in the third set. Unfortunately, the scoreboard did not reflect the Crusaders’ painstaking efforts.
It has been a rough opening weekend for the Men’s team, currently looking at a record of 0-4. Hopefully, their hard work and adversity will pay off next weekend, Feb. 13 and 14 against Spartanburg Methodist and Lander University; and the Crusaders will be able to improve their standings.
