Tigerville – North Greenville celebrated senior night with its second straight win on Saturday evening, downing Southern Wesleyan 5-0 in Pepsi Stadium.
The Crusaders put the pressure on SWU early and often on the offensive end of the field. Zach Baker put NGU on top early on in the game when he connected with his first score of the season with an assist from Gareth Greene. Two more goals from the Crusaders in the first half made it 3-0 at halftime.
Gareth Greene made it a two score lead with his first score of the game seven minutes later while a goal from Mitchell Backer, his fifth score of the season extended the lead to three. The Crusaders finished with 32-shots on Saturday night with 16 of those shots coming on frame. SWU keeper Will Hughes saved 11 of those shots.
The scoring slowed in the second half. Gareth Greene scored his second of the night in the 71st minute while Ben McKay took a Brady Carmichael pass in to score the fifth goal of the game. The shutout was preserved a pair of NGU keepers in Noah Kendrick and Dawson Martin. Kendrick earned the win for his fourth of the season and collected four saves in the process. Martin played 16-minutes and tacked on a pair of saves.
The win improved NGU’s record to 4-13 overall on the season and 3-7 in league play. The win over SWU wrapped up the regular season for the Crusaders.
