North Greenville suffered a 2-1 loss to the Chowan Hawks this afternoon in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. After allowing a goal in the first half, NGU came back in the second half to tie things up. However, the Hawks would score a second goal just a few minutes later and would hold the Crusaders off to secure the win. Mitchell Backer scored his fourth goal of the season.
Chowan would start off the match with the offense, posting nine shots in the first 25 minutes of the half. NGU's first shot would come by Kike Molina at the 26 minute mark. However, the Hawks struck first in the 29th minute with a goal by Trevin Myers. North Greenville would put up just one more shot in the half, and the score would remaing 1-0 in favor of the Hawks going into halftime.
In a productive second half, the Crusaders would double their shot count just fifteen minutes in. With just under twenty minutes remaining, North Greenville scored the equalizer when Mitchell Backer connected for a goal with an assist by Ben Mackay. However, just minutes later a penalty kick goal by Chowan's Toby Sims put CU right back on top. NGU was unable to get another shot off for the remainder of the match, allowing the Hawks to hang on for the win.
The Crusaders will head to Morrow, Georgia to face the Lakers of Clayton State University on Tuesday, October 29th.
