Crusaders Score Early, But Ultimately Fall to Bobcats

The North Greenville Crusaders held a lead for the first time this season, but the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College we able to respond, causing NGU to fall 2-1 in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Mitchell Backer scored his second goal of the season.

After the Bobcats took the first shot of the game, North Greenville responded with the next two shots with the second resulting in a goal by Mitchell Backer and an assist by Ben Mackay. However, that lead would last for just fourteen seconds as LMC immediately struck back with a goal by Johannes Oeksnevad. The Crusader offense was limited throughout the remainder of the first half as just one more shot would be recorded. NGU would go into halftime trailing 2-1.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Lees-McRae took their first lead of the match when Eduardo Olavide found the back of the net. Shortly after Gareth Greene was charged with a red card, Erick Gonzalez put up NGU's first shot of the half, which was on goal but saved. Lees-McRae would record the final five shots of the match, two of which resulted in saves by Noah Kendrick. The Crusaders had possession of the ball with less than a minute remaining, but a foul put an end to that as the clock expired.

Up next for NGU is a trip to nearby Greenville, South Carolina to take on the NCAA Division I Furman Paladins on Tuesday, October 8th.
