Tigerville, SC - Zach Baker and Mitchell Backer scored North Greenville's first goals of the season, but the Crusaders would ultimately fall just short to the Erskine Flying Fleet with a final score of 3-2. Both of NGU's goals were equalizers, but Erskine's final goal proved to be too much to come back from as they would hang on for the win.
Fifteen minutes into the first half, Erskine would be first to get on the board when Fernando Gonzalez connected for a goal from the far right wing. The remainder of the half would turn into a defensive battle with just three shots taken between the two teams. Late in the half, both teams would get a shot off but neither would be on goal for a score of 1-0 at the half.
In an action-packed second half, the Crusaders would quickly even up the score when Zach Baker scored NGU's first goal of the season from inside the box. About thirteen minutes later, the Flying Fleet would take the lead back when Kakper Zak hit a goal from the top of the box. With just over twelve minutes remaining in the game, Mitchell Backer scored the equalizer form inside the box to tie the match at 2-2. However, that would not last long as Jorge Henao scored the winning goal for Erskine less than a minute later. The Crusaders were able to get two shots off in the last five minutes, but were unable to strike for a third time.
The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday, September 21st when they take on Barton College in Tigerville.
