North Greenville put up an improved defensive effort, but fell short offensively with a final score of 2-0 against the North Georgia Nighthawks in Dahlonega, Georgia. Noah Kendrick allowed just 2 goals and recorded 6 saves even with a 26-shot performance by the Nighthawks. NGU did improve offensively with 9 total shots including 4 by Mitchell Backer.
UNG was aggressive from the start, putting up 3 shots within the first four minutes of the match. However, it was North Georgia goalkeeper Conner Domaleski that would require a save as Ben Mackay would put up the first saved shot of the match. Just over 21 minutes into the match, North Georgia's Donovan Odier scored the first goal with an assist by Eren Ozer. North Greenville attempted to score an equalizer with two more shots by Mackay and a shot by Keletso Mathathe, but would ultimately remain scoreless going into halftime.
The second half began with more aggression by the Nighthawks, but the score would remain the same until less than fifteen minutes remained when Odier scored again and an assist by Victor Galterio. Mitchell Backer and Brian Acevedo would each post a shot with less than two minutes remaining, but North Georgia would hang on to complete the shutout.
NGU will pick back up Wednesday, September 11th in Tigerville to face the Catawba College Indians.
