Men's Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season With Win

Dahlonega, GA – North Greenville ended the regular season on a positive note with a non-conference victory over the North Georgia Nighthawks 3-2. The Crusaders stunned the Nighthawks with three unanswered goals in the first 27 minutes of the game.

With the regular season complete, North Greenville's five wins are the most in a season since 2011 when NGU put together an 8-7 regular season.

The Basics

  • Score: North Greenville – 3 / North Georgia – 2
  • Location: UNG Soccer Complex (Dahlonega, Georgia)
  • Records: NGU – 5-9-1, 3-6-1 CC / UNG – 8-7-0, 5-2-0 PBC

How it Happened

  • North Greenville were the aggressors out of the gate, taking the first four shots of the game.
  • The third of those four shots resulted in a header goal by Casey Brady with an assist by Keletso Mathathe in the 15th minute of the game. The goal was Brady's first of the season.
  • 20 minutes into the first half, NGU struck again with Keletso Mathathe's first goal of the season. Dillon Erkens recorded an assist.
  • Erkens then scored his second goal of the season just past the 31 minute mark.
  • North Georgia was finally able to get on the board with a goal by Alex Grant, which was his eighth of the season.
  • A minute and a half into the second half, Alex Grant scored UNG's second goal with an assist by Gabriel Garcia.
  • Gareth Greene was charged with a yellow card near the 70 minute mark.
  • Five minutes later, North Georgia's Daniel Joyce was also charged with a yellow card.
  • The Crusaders would not get a single shot off in the second half, but four saves by James Max Miller in the second half would help NGU hang on to win the game.
