Tigerville, S.C. –Another season was concluded on Thursday night as NGU men’s soccer wrapped up its 2016 campaign with a 2-1 loss to Truett McConnell.
Truett drew first blood on Thursday night with a goal at the 24th minute. Gnacio Perez beat the NGU defense to score unassisted, giving the Bears an early one goal lead.
The Crusaders forced the action for much of the half though, with it eventually paying off in the 25th minute, evening the tally. Sjors van Eck’s header off of the assist from Luis Molina made the score 1-1 just a minute later.
North Greenville’s first half offensive pressure spilled over into the second half as the Crusaders continued to force the action on the Truett half of the field. Jake Quinn and Evan Mills both got off shots in the period, both of which sailed just wide of the net.
The Bears also turned on the offensive tempo in the second frame. The Bears took eight shots in the half as they looked regain the edge. The shooting eventually paid off in the 83rd minute as Fredrico Dvino found the back of the net to make it 2-1 in favor of TMC, taking advantage of a rebound off the cross bar.
The Crusaders would gain a corner kick in the late minutes and Sjors van Eck would rocket another shot at the Truett net but neither attempt would find its intended destination as the clock wound down on the game and NGU’s season.
The Crusaders finished the night with seven total shots, two of which were on goal. Mateo Barzola totaled 11-saves after facing 13-shots. Van Eck registered NGU’s only goal of the night, his only score of the season.
North Greenville finishes the year 1-10-1 overall and 0-6 in Conference Carolinas play.
