Belmont, N.C. – North Greenville was left looking for its first conference win of the season on Wednesday following a 4-0 loss to Belmont Abbey College.
The two squads, both carrying the Crusader mascot carried a scoreless tie through the 33rd minute. Belmont Abbey would break the scoring drought in the 34th minute when Luke Wood would take a long entry pass from Patrick Kibler and produce the game’s first goal to give Abbey a 1-0 lead.
Wood gave Belmont Abbey a 2-0 lead just three minutes later as he turned another pass, this time from Geinner Duque, into the second score of the game in the 37th minute. The Crusaders would tack on two more goals in the second period, as Steven Pate and Grant Retamar would score in the 76th and 88th minutes.
BAC finished with 10 shots on goal Wednesday evening, resulting in five saves for starting keeper Mateo Barzola. James Max Miller also tallied a save for North Greenville.
The Crusaders fell to 1-8-1 overall and 0-7-1 in Conference Carolinas play with just two games left. NGU will host The University of Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon at 4pm.
