Columbia, S.C. – Bill Martin earned his first win as a collegiate head coach on Tuesday as his NGU Men’s Soccer Team bested the Columbia International Rams 2-0.
The Crusaders got off six shots on goal in a physical battle with the Rams on Tuesday as 23-fouls were committed between both teams. The Crusaders scored twice while Mateo Barzola earned his first shutout of the season while collecting three saves.
Casey Brady broke a scoreless tie in the 15th minute of the game as he scored on an assist from Jonny Lind. It was Brady’s first goal of the season and gave the Crusaders their first lead of the season.
The Crusaders kept up the pressure, eventually breaking through again in the 37th minute as Lind scored his team leading third goal of the season to extend NGU’s advantage to 2-0.
North Greenville’s defense would preserve the win in the second half as the Rams got off just one shot on goal, a shot in the early minutes of the period that was saved by Barzola.
