Due West, S.C. – North Greenville men’s soccer dropped its first Conference Carolinas game of the season after a 5-1 defeat to Erskine College.
The Fleet put together a huge first half over the NGU men, finding the back of the net four times in the opening 45-minutes. EC opened the scoring quickly, taking a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute. Another goal in the 11th minute would put the Fleet in the drivers seat.
The Crusaders attempted to work their way back into contention with a couple shots from Chris Inman but a pair of saves by the Fleet goalkeeper Martin Arias would preserve the first half shutout. Meanwhile, the Fleet found the net twice more, in the 28th and 31st minute to extend the advantage to 4-0.
Johnny Lind and Jaggar Segovia fired off a pair of shots early in the second half, looking to get NGU on the board but both were stopped. Erskine added a fifth goal in the 69th minute to extend the lead to five goals. North Greenville broke-up the shutout in the 79th minute on Vitor Tarpinian’s first goal of the season.
The Crusaders fall to 0-2 on the season after the loss to Erskine. NGU will open its home schedule on Wednesday with a 7:30pm kickoff with Lees-McRae.
