Tigerville, S.C.—The NGU Men's Soccer Team dropped another heartbreaker on Saturday night in a 1-0 loss to Southern Wesleyan in overtime.
The Crusaders and Warriors battled to a 0-0 tie after 90 minutes of play. Southern Wesleyan totaled six shots on goal while NGU had four. NGU keeper Mateo Barzola turned in another solid performance with five saves, including some saves late in regulation, keeping the Crusaders in contention.
Southern Wesleyan's Ruben Rodriguez also put together a solid stat line with four saves on NGU shots. The Warriors were the aggressor in the overtime period, keeping the action on NGU's side of the field. The game winner came in the 97th minute as Sebastian Castro found the back of the net with an assist from Juan Agudelo.
The Crusaders fell to 2-11 after the loss and 0-8 in Conference Carolinas play, while the Warriors improve to 4-1-1 in league play and 9-4 overall. The loss in overtime is NGU's second overtime loss of the season.
The Crusaders will look to earn their first conference win of the season on Tuesday night as Belmont Abbey travels to Tigerville for a 7pm game with NGU.
