Despite a lightning delay of more than an hour, the North Greenville men's soccer team notched its second win of the season in a 9-0 thrashing of the Laurel University Lions.
The Crusaders and Lions stayed scoreless for the first 18 minutes until Mirilo Materagia broke the stalemate. Materagia latched onto the cross of Victor Labi and knocked it past the Lions goalkeeper to make it 1-0. The goal sparked offensive momentum for the Crusaders as the scoring opened up.
Lucas Gravely scored three minutes later, taking down a corner kick and deflecting it past the goalie. Four minutes later, Labi would get his first goal of the season after a beautiful field-length pass from Johnny Lind. Less than two minutes after, Doug Cordi scored the first of his two goals on the night, taking a cross and putting it past the keeper. Chris Inman scored in the 36th minute before a lightning delay caused the teams to head to the locker room.
After the break, North Greenville picked up right where it left off. Cordi scored his second goal of the night in the 42nd minute of the game, making the score 6-0 at halftime.
Andre Cakar opened the scoring in the second half, scoring his third goal of the season in the first minute of the second half. Lind got on the scoresheet with a strike in the 47th minute while Juan Regalado ended the scoring for the night with his first goal of the season.
Cordi was the only Crusader to score multiple goals, with Materagia, Gravely, Labi, Inman, Lind and Regalado all notching their first goal of the season. Lind led the Crusaders with three assists on the night.
North Greenville looks to carry this confidence into conference play when they take on the Pfeiffer University Falcons in Misnheimer, N.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. on October 3rd.
