MEN'S SOCCER AWARDED CONFERENCE CAROLINAS SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD

High Point, N.C. - With the completion of winter conference championships, Conference Carolinas is pleased to announce the 2014-2015 Winter Team Sportsmanship Award winners. King University claims honors for both Men's and Women's Basketball, as well as Men's Indoor Track & Field, bringing their total sportsmanship awards for 2014-2015 to four. Lees-McRae College is the recipient of the award for Women's Indoor Track & Field, their first of the school year.

These awards, also known as Mini Messicks, are presented annually to the member institutions judged to have exhibited the highest degree of sportsmanship among its players, coaches, and fans during their regular playing season. Each of the conference's twenty sponsored sports has its own Mini Messick, and the program with the best overall average will receive the Messick Sportsmanship award at the end of the academic year. The award is a recognition for that institution's commitment to providing a quality playing environment for home and visiting fans, players, and staff members.

Conference Carolinas athletics directors implemented the process by which all Conference Carolinas sportsmanship awards are determined. A student-athlete and coach work together to judge the sportsmanship of all conference competitors, including opposing players, coaches, and fans. Each institution then submits those votes to the conference office, where averages are calculated to decide the winner for each conference-sponsored sport.

The individual team sportsmanship awards are now in their fourth year, reflecting Conference Carolinas' commitment to exhibiting and recognizing sportsmanship throughout the conference. As an NCAA Division II member, Conference Carolinas prides itself on creating a positive game environment through sportsmanship to ensure a positive experience for student-athletes and fans alike.
