The North Greenville University men’s soccer team stumbled out of the block to start the season. The Crusaders dropped their 2014 season opener to the Tornados of Brevard College 2-0.
The game started well for NGU as Sophomore Jonny Lind found space and fired a shot just 4 minutes in. Sophomore goalkeeper DJ Baker would see his first action of the new season, making a save in the eighth minute. Baker would be unable to turn away the Tornado’s second attempt however, as Robert Ferrer found the back of the net on a headed goal assisted by Sergi Monso, just 10 minutes into the game.
The Crusader’s would attempt to get back level as Freshman James Max Miller would head just wide in the 14th minute. The game would remain relatively quiet until the 32nd minute as Ferrer and Monso would connect again, this time reversing roles with Monso snatching the goal and Ferrer the assist.
The Crusaders refused to go down without a fight however, as the second half would see more offense from the Crusaders, with the Crusader’s lone shot on goal coming off the foot of junior midfielder Ara Zadoorian.
The Crusaders (0-1, 0-0 Conference Carolinas) will return home to host Lander University on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in Pepsi Stadium.
