Crusaders Continue Early Season Success
Tigerville, SC – After a dominating performance to open the season, the North Greenville University men’s soccer team continued its success with a 7-0 victory over Chowan University on Saturday in the team’s 2013 home opener.
The Crusaders struck early with a goal from freshman Jonny Lind, his second of the season, on an assist from sophomore Thales Wieczorek in the 4th minute to gain the early advantage before Lind and Wieczorek connected again for a goal to go ahead 2-0 in the 9th minute.
Senior Todd Johnston netted his fourth goal of the season in the 18th minute of action on an assist from fellow senior Alex Redding. The Crusaders scored again in the 20th minute on a header from sophomore Doug Cordi, assisted once again by Wieczorek, to give the team an early four-goal edge.
Johnson scored his second goal of the game in the 28th on an assist from Wieczorek, his fourth helper of the game, while sophomore Adam Turner gave the team a 6-0 lead in the 31st minute that the Crusaders took into intermission.
The Crusaders final goal of the game came in the 80th minute from the foot of Turner, his second of the game, to secure the 7-0 victory at home.
North Greenville totaled 23 shots, while holding the Hawks to just four as freshman DJ Baker recorded one save in 58:14 minutes of action to earn his second win of the year. Sophomore Andrew Duncan also recorded one save in 31:46 minutes in the game.
The Crusaders (2-0, 0-0 Conference Carolinas) will host Emmanuel College on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in Pepsi Stadium.
