Misenheimer, NC – The Falcons of Pfeiffer University used three second half goals to claim a 4-3 come from behind victory over the Crusaders on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders opened the game with an goal from freshman Johnny Lind on an assist from senior Ben Montry in the 7th minute of play to build the early lead.
Montry assisted on the Crusaders’ second goal by fellow senior Todd Johnston in the 16th minute before Montry scored a goal of his own in the 23rd minute on assists from Johnston and sophomore Thales Wieczorek to build a three-goal lead.
The Falcons earned their first goal in the 32nd minute of play on a penalty kick to give North Greenville the 3-1 edge heading into the half.
However, Pfeiffer would make the right adjustments during intermission, scoring two quick goals in the 53rd and 59th minutes to even the score at three goals apiece.
Pfeiffer’s Nathan Regis netted his second penalty shot of the game in the 84th minute of action and the Falcon defense held strong to earn the one-goal victory on their home field.
Sophomore keeper Pablo Dongarra recorded a career-high 12 saves as Pfeiffer totaled 30 shots in the game compared to 15 shots by North Greenville.
The Crusaders (3-7, 1-3 Conference Carolinas) will travel to Columbia, SC for a non-conference contest with Columbia International University on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in their final road game of the 2013 season.
