Belmont, NC – The North Greenville University men’s soccer team improved its Conference Carolinas record to .500 with a 3-1 victory over the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon.
North Greenville freshman Brandon Harrison gave the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage in the 33rd minute with his first career goal before Belmont Abbey’s Jay Nazari evened the score in the 37th minute to make the score 1-1 at the break.
After the half, the Crusaders of North Greenville went ahead in the 51st minute on a goal from junior Todd Johnston after crashing the goal and being the beneficiary of a rebound. Johnston scored again in the 66th minute of play when he and freshman Ara Zadoorian combined to seal the victory for North Greenville. After his two-goal performance, Johnston has now scored a career-high six goals this season.
Despite being outshot 18-6 in the game, North Greenville made the most of its limited opportunities. Senior goalkeeper Justen Braddock recorded eight saves in the game, bringing his season total to 36 in 10 games played.
North Greenville (4-5-1, 3-3 in conference) will look to put together back-to-back wins as they host Pfeiffer University on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. in Pepsi Stadium.
