Bristol, TN - In the final game of a three-game road trip, the North Greenville University men's soccer team defeated King College 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon for the team's first Conference Carolinas victory of the season.
The two teams were scoreless in the first half of play with NGU recording just five shots and King recording only seven. However, the Crusaders broke through for two goals in the second half to down the Tornado.
Freshman midfielder Thales Wieczorek earned the first goal of his young career with an unassisted goal in the 84th minute to give the Crusaders the one goal advantage. North Greenville tacked on its second and final goal just 24 seconds later as freshman forward Adam Turner scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick to seal the victory for NGU.
Senior goalkeeper Justen Braddock earned the shutout, totaling just one save in 90 minutes of play as the Crusaders outshot the Tornado 20-13 in the game.
"I am excited with the intensity our guys played with today," said head coach Chad Gfeller. "We knew that King would have a good squad and it would take persistence and confidence to get a win."
The Crusaders (2-4-1, 1-3 in conference) will look to put together back-to-back wins as they host Mount Olive College on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. in Pepsi Stadium.
