Tigerville, SC – Looking to put together back-to-back wins to open the season, the North Greenville University men’s soccer team fell just short, playing to a 2-2 double overtime tie with Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday afternoon in Pepsi Stadium.
The Crusaders jumped on the scoreboard first as junior Todd Johnston scored his first goal of the season in 23rd minute on an assist from senior David Frazao. The Hurricanes quickly tied the game with a goal of their own in the 24th minute to go into the half tied at one goal apiece.
North Greenville and Georgia Southwestern picked up where they left off in the second half as the Hurricanes scored a go ahead goal in the 64th minute before the Crusaders tied the game once again with a goal from freshman Adam Turner in the 66th minute of play. Junior Wil Pickel assisted on Turner’s first career goal.
The two teams played two overtime periods before ending the game in a tie.
Senior goalkeeper Justen Braddock recorded two saves in the game in 74:46 before giving way to freshman keeper Pablo Dongarra who recorded just one save in 45:14 of action.
The Crusaders (1-0-1) continue their four-game home stand on Friday, September 7 as they play host to Lander University at 7 p.m. in Pepsi Stadium.
