Cleveland, GA – With a spot in the NCCAA Southern Regional Tournament on the line, the men’s soccer team took a trip to Truett-McConnell College for a play-in game. The Bears made key plays when they mattered the most, as the Crusaders lost 4-3 in overtime.
“We had a lot of opportunities in both halves and the game could’ve gone either way,” said head coach Chad Gfeller. “I’m proud of the young team we have and I am looking forward to the potential we have in the next few years.”
The Crusaders grabbed a 2-1 halftime lead after goals by forwards Jonathan Restrepo and Alex Redding. However, the Bears would mount a comeback and take a 3-2 lead after two fairly quick goals to begin the second half.
Ben Bosco would even the score at three goals apiece and send the game into overtime. Extra time once again to be the downfall for North Greenville as Truett-McConnell scored the game-winning goal four minutes into the extra period.
The Crusaders, who finish the season 6-10, will lose only two seniors from this year’s squad and hope to use the playing time of some young players to build on this season and come back with a strong 2011 campaign.
