Tigerville, S.C. – After a recent three-game losing streak, the North Greenville men’s soccer team got a much needed 2-1 victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Wednesday night in Pepsi Stadium.
The game began with the Crusaders in attack mode early and often outshooting the Knights 5-2 in the first half. Junior midfielder Jonathan Restrepo scored the game’s first goal on an assist from defender Chris Williams in the 9th minute. However, St. Andrews would quickly even the score just one minute later to make the halftime score 1-1.
The second half brought about a back-and-forth style of play as each team tried their best to gain advantage on the offensive half. After 89 minutes of hard-fought play, Williams trapped a rebound and fired a shot toward goal. The goal bent around the St. Andrews’ goalkeeper and into the net as North Greenville came away with the victory.
“I’m excited to get a win in a game where we did not execute,” said head coach Chad Gfeller.
The Crusaders (4-4) will look to continue their winning way next Wednesday, Oct. 6 against Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
