Franklin Springs, GA – After winning their first two games of 2010, the North Greenville men’s soccer team looked to add to their win total on Saturday against Emmanuel College.
In what could be described loosely as a physical game between both sides, the Crusaders were locked in a tight battle until a goal with 10 minutes left put the Lions ahead for the 2-1 victory.
“When it comes down to it, they just outplayed us for 90 minutes,” said head coach Chad Gfeller.
After going into halftime down 1-0, the Crusaders were able to rally in the second half to score a goal in the 47th minute to even the score at 1-1. The goal came from sophomore midfielder Marcus Krall who put a header into the back of the net on an assist from the foot of senior midfielder Chris Williams. The Crusaders had 14 shots in the game compared to 19 by the Lions.
“In the second half we came out with a lot of intensity and were all over them but an unfortunate red card had us playing a man down for the rest of the game,” said Gfeller.
The Crusaders will be on the field once again on Tuesday, Sept. 14 against USC-Aiken at 7 p.m. in Tigerville.
