After winning the season opener Thursday at home against Toccoa Falls, the North Greenville men’s soccer team went on the road to Bristol, VA to take on the Cobras of Virginia Intermont College.
The Crusaders worked hard in practice to correct a few minor mistakes and put their improved skills on display to shutout the Cobras 3-0.
“Overall we were much better this game. We brought a lot of intesnity” said head coach Chad Gfeller. “The field conditions were not ideal but we overcame them and were happy to get the win.”
The player of the game for North Greenville was junior midfielder Jonathan Restrepo who had goals in the 7th minute and 22nd minute. The first goal for Restrepo came when goalie Justen Braddock punted a ball high and deep down the field and Restrepo was able to strike the ball out of the air for the score. Goal number two came on a free kick when he put the ball into the back of the net on a spectacular shot into the top corner.
The third and final goal for North Greenville was scored in the 77th minute as freshman midfielder Ben Montry played a cornerkick into the box that bounced off of a Cobra defender into his own goal.
The Crusaders are now 2-0 and will look to extend their early season win streak on Saturday, Sept. 11 against Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
