Due West, S.C.— After a convincing win over Chowan (5-0) on Saturday, the North Greenville Men’s soccer team traveled to Erskine College on Wednesday to take on the Flying Fleet. The Wednesday match would end up being the third overtime game of the season for the Crusaders.
Despite tying the game late, the Crusaders came up short in overtime losing 2-1. The match was scoreless until the 81st minute when Erskine took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal. The Crusaders responded quickly when Jonathan Restrepo scored on a header with an assist from Markus Krall in the 85th minute. The score would remain 1-1 heading into the 10 minute overtime. The Flying fleet would score the game winning goal with 1 minute left in overtime on a direct kick. “ It was obviously a tough loss for us” said head coach Chad Gfeller “But the team played hard the entire game and responded when they had to.” NGU’s next game is on October 24th against Brevard in Tigerville. Kickoff for that game is set for 1pm.
