Tigerville, S.C.- After a double overtime loss to Anderson University, the North Greenville men’s soccer team took the field Tuesday night looking to right the ship with a win over the Owls of Warren Wilson College.
A win over the Owls would put the Crusaders back at the .500 mark for the season. The Crusaders would improve their record to 4-4 with a 3-2 win over Warren Wilson. The scoring started 8 minutes into the game when the Owls took a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal. The Crusaders trailed for the entire first half and 5 minutes of the second period until Juan Carlos Aguilera tied the game at one with an unassisted goal in the 50th minute. Two minutes later, Max Duarte gave North Greenville lead with the Crusaders second unassisted goal of the game. The score remained 2-1 until Manuel Izguierdo scored in the 56th minute with an assist from Max Duarte. Warren Wilson would score one more time in the 82nd minute to make the final score 3-2. “It was a good win for us” said head coach Chad Gfeller “it was important for us to come out and get a win this game after the tough loss last week and I think we played very well.” The Crusaders will have a 10 day layoff before their next contest on October 17th when they play Chowan College. The game is set for a 7pm kickoff and will be played at the Pepsi Soccer Stadium at North Greenville Unviersity.
