Max Duarte and Seth Snyder each scored two goals and the NGU men’s soccer team (7-9) outshot Tennessee Temple 27-10 as the Crusaders won their National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) South Regional play-in game 8-0 at Pepsi Stadium in Tigerville.
The Crusaders will next journey to Palm Beach, Florida to play in the NCCAA South Regional Tournament Nov. 20-21. NGU was the 4th seed in the region, and Tennessee Temple was #5. Pairings for the regional will be announced Monday.
Jonathan Restrepo got NGU on the scoreboard early as he knocked in an unassisted goal at 6:19. Snyder then scored his two goals to give the Crusaders a 3-0 halftime lead. Snyder leads NGU in scoring with eight goals this year. Coach Chad Gfeller’s team poured on the offense in the second half as they scored a season high five goals, giving NGU its biggest offensive showing of the year. Max Duarte scored both of his goals in the second half, giving him six for the season. Chandler Patterson, Kyle Walden and Matt Sekuras found the net for the red and black.
Nick Williams and Dana Blackwell combined on the shutout for the Crusaders. Williams even stopped a penalty kick in the first half in getting a share of his sixth shutout this year.
