The men's soccer team opened up the 2005 season in style. With a new athletic complex surrounding them, the Crusaders began their season with a 3-0 win over Southern Wesleyan University. Head coach Chad Gfeller said he was "happy that the guys came out strong and had a lot of confidence in the way they played."
"We attacked the goal with a lot of speed and finished the ball well," said Gfeller. Tyler Pegues opened the scoring for the Crusaders with Danny Cobb and Chris Blalock adding the other two goals. Goal kepper Jim Burton shut out the visiting Warriors. "Jim played an incredible game. There were a few times Southern Wesleyan could have gotten back into the game, but Jim kept them out. He was great today," said Gfeller.
The Crusaders will host Brevard College Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Pepsi Field. The Lady Crusaders open up today at 10:00 a.m. against Mount Olive.
