Fast start lifts North Greenville over Lees-McRae

Tigerville, S.C. - Drew Warren pocketed six goals paired with three assists while Chris Carpenter added four goals of his own as the North Greenville men's lacrosse team earned a 19-10 win over Lees-McRae.

The Crusaders took a big lead after one period as six unanswered goals earned NGU a 6-0 advantage. Warren and Carpenter both scored twice in the opening period while Andrew Loach added two goals.

The Bobcats opened the second period with their first goal of the game to cut NGU's lead to five before Wassenaar added his first goal of the game with an assist from Alex Proly. NGU would tack on five more goals before halftime to take a 12-2 lead into intermission.

Matt Somjak struck first for North Greenville to open the second half, but the third period would belong to Lees-McRae. The Bobcats scored three times in the final eight minutes of the period while North Greenville was held to just the one goal as LMC clawed a little closer to the Crusaders who led 13-5.

NGU would make adjustments heading into the fourth period. Drew Warren would spark an NGU rally with his sixth goal of the game to extend NGU's advantage to 14-5. The Crusaders would go on to score three more times in the opening five minutes including Jalen Bell's first of the season to all but seal the victory with a 17-5 lead.

The Bobcats tacked on five more goals in the final period but NGU's defense staved off any sort of comeback attempt to secure North Greenville's second Conference Carolinas win of the season.

Matthew Sandoval earned the win in the net for NGU, finishing with three saves. Jalen Bell led the Crusaders with 10 ground balls and was 16 of 21 in faceoff attempts. Andrew Loach and Drew Wassenaar finished with two goals each while three players had three assists.

North Greenville will travel to Rome, Georgia on Friday afternoon to take on Shorter at 2pm.
