Mount Olive, N.C.—The NGU Men's Lacrosse team dropped its second consecutive game on Saturday in a 12-5 loss to the University of Mount Olive.
Mount Olive earned a 3-1 lead after the first period of play, scoring three goals in the final 6:27 of the quarter. North Greenville trailed 3-0 but cut the lead to two after Hunter Burgett scored an unassisted goal with 52 seconds left.
The Crusaders would go into halftime trailing by four after three more goals from the Trojans in the second period. NGU's only offense came from Drew Wassenaar who scored early in the period to cut the score to 4-2 after a UMO goal at the 13-minute mark.
Mount Olive would extend its advantage to 8-2 after a scoreless third period for the Crusaders. The Trojans deposited two goals at 12:20 and 11:12, putting North Greenville in a deeper hole.
The Crusaders fell behind a little further after the Trojans scored two more goals to open the fourth period. Brandon Petter found the back of the net for North Greenville for the first time in more than 20 minutes to cut the lead to 10-3 on an assist from Jake Duarte.
Drew Wassenaar would score two more goals in the final five minutes to earn NGU's only hat trick of the game, while the Trojans put the game away with a goal at the 5:52 and 1:49 marks to earn the seven point Conference Carolinas win.
NGU fell to 1-6 on the season and 1-1 in league play after the loss to the Trojans. Wassenaar led NGU with three goals while Petter and Burgett both had one. The Crusaders will host Coker College on March 21st at 7pm.
