The game of lacrosse is spreading in popularity quickly across the United States, and North Greenville was one of many athletic departments to adopt the growing sport. North Greenville's first season of varsity lacrosse started in early February, and outside parties have taken notice. North Greenville head coach Corey Struss was recently featured in a Q&A with the online publicatiom "Inside Lacrosse".
The growth of the sport into nontraditional areas has been well-documented. How have you seen that growth in your school's state?
"South Carolina lacrosse is really starting to hit its stride. Only four years ago, there were about 30 high schools sponsoring the sport. Now, there are 50 in the state. With the addition of Furman (DI) and North Greenville (DII), Greenville is definitely some of the best lacrosse in the state. We are so close to Charlotte and Atlanta, so we attract some quality teams to the area too. With our planned prospect camps, we expect to attract some of the highest caliber lacrosse players in the state of South Carolina, but also provide the highest quality of coaching."
