TIGERVILLE - The inaugural North Greenville Men's Lacrosse season is in full swing as the team just wrapped up preseason camp and kicks off with scrimmages against Queens University of Charlotte and Mars Hill over the next three weekends.
The program enters its first season in history with a group of 31 players from all over North America, and is comprised of 25 true freshmen, and 6 upper-classmen transfers.
"The most important thing to building our team is to help our leaders emerge and to see them take ownership. We want these guys to take the reins this year, and for the years to come and make this team their own. I'm excited to see how we fare this year - we've got a young squad but there are days where we look like we can compete with some of the best in the country. Finding that consistency is going to be a maturation process this spring, we must to find a way to consistently play as a team."
With the level of talent and growth in the South region of NCAA Division II Lacrosse, Coach Struss has told his team that they have the opportunity to play the best competition in Division II. This 2015 Season is highlighted with home contests against Limestone College (2014 NCAA National Champions and 2015 Preseason #1), Wheeling Jesuit University, Pfeiffer University, and Mount Olive University, all of whom were ranked in the USILA Top 15 in the 2014 season.
"We're going to take it one game at a time. We are focusing on North Greenville right now, not any of those other guys on the schedule. We've got an opportunity to see what we have in our scrimmages against Queens and Mars Hill, and then we'll shift our focus on Shorter University. I told the guys before preseason to embrace the process and enjoy where we are. Our inaugural season only happens once, so we want to take a breath and enjoy it. If we can continue to focus on us, creating opportunities and executing our systems, then the confidence will be there - and that's when the fun starts."
North Greenville will open up their season at home on February 14th at 2:00PM at Pepsi Stadium against Shorter University.
