CHAMPIONS! Men's Golf makes history with second consecutive league championship

Snow Hill, N.C. – North Greenville men’s golf earned its second consecutive league title on Tuesday afternoon as it won the Conference Carolinas Tournament with a team total 866.

The tournament victory made program and school history as the only team to repeat as conference tournament champions. The Crusaders finished six strokes ahead of second place Barton College and 12 strokes ahead of Limestone College who finished third. Mount Olive and Erskine rounded out the top five.

The Crusaders finished the first round with a 209, two strokes ahead of Barton and three strokes ahead of Limestone following Sunday’s round. The lead ballooned to 12-strokes on Monday afternoon as NGU put up a 288 as a team while Barton fell behind after a 298 as a squad. A 288 would be NGU’s final round score, holding off a determined Barton team which shaved off six strokes.

North Greenville also claimed the tournament’s top finisher this season as Austin Duncan took home the individual title. Duncan shot even par on day one but shot a tournament low 67 in round two which helped spur NGU to its 12-stroke lead. A final round 71 completed a solid week for the sophomore. Duncan was just one of two players who carded par or under for all three rounds.

The only other player to do so was also an NGU standout in Seth Robertson who finished the week in second place overall. Robertson kicked off the tournament with a first-round low of 68 to lead North Greenville and the field. He shot a 71 in round two and a 72 in the final trip around the track to finish with a three-round total of 211, just one stroke behind Duncan.

He shot a 75, 73, and a 71 for a tournament total 219. Ledford finished the competition with a 76, 77, and a 74 which totaled 227 for the week.
