Crusaders Picked to Finish Third in Men's Golf

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Limestone College Saints received 69 points and six first-place votes to be tabbed the favorites to win the 2016 Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Championship, the league announced today.

The Saints, the reigning Conference Carolinas champions, will also be looking to return to the NCAA Southeast Regional for the third straight season.

The University of Mount Olive was picked second in the preseason poll with 62 points and two first-place votes. The Trojans finished tied for fifth at last year's Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Championship.

Nabbing the No. 3 spot is North Greenville with 54 points. The Crusaders notched a third-place finish at the 2015 men's championship and earned a bid to the 2015 Southeast Regionals

Erskine College produced 51 points for fourth in the preseason poll, followed by Belmont Abbey College with 44 points at fifth.

The Flying Fleet finished tied for fifth at the 2015 Conference Carolinas tournament and made an appearance in the 2015 Southeast Regional. The Crusaders managed a seventh-place finish at the Conference Carolinas tournament last season.

King University comes into 2016 at No. 6 with 40 points, which was narrowly ahead of No. 7 Barton College with 39 points.

The Tornado posted a runner-up finish at the 2015 Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Championship, while the Bulldogs turned in a fourth-place finish.

Rounding out the poll in eighth with 33 points is Pfeiffer University, who finished eighth at the 2015 men's golf championship.

The 2016 Conference Carolinas men's golf season begins on Monday, Feb. 15.
