Monroe, N.C.—The North Greenville Men's Golf Team added another top five finish to its resume this week after finishing in fourth place at the Hargett Memorial Invitational hosted by Wingate University.
The Crusaders found themselves in first place after round one, shooting a 290, seven strokes ahead of the second place. Evan Gfeller was among the top players after the first 18 holes after shooting a 70 while Tucker MacDonald finished with a 72.
The Crusaders would hit a rough stretch in the second round however, dropping 13 strokes. The Crusaders shot a round total 303 on the second 18. NGU failed to shoot below par in the second 18, also played on Monday afternoon. Gfeller once again posted the lowest score NGU with a 73 while MacDonald fell two strokes to 74. Sam Goodnight, who shot a 75 in round one finished the second round with a 77 while Christian Constance dropped six strokes to a 79 and Chase Fisher fell two to 80.
The Crusaders found their way back under the 300 mark in the third round, gaining seven strokes and finishing with a 296. Gfeller, who finished the tournament in second place shot a 71 on Tuesday and finished with a three round total of 214. MacDonald finished the tournament in a tie for sixth place after a 73 in round three and a 219 overall. Sam Goodnight posted NGU's only other finisher in the top 40, finishing in the 30th spot with a 228. Christian Constance was 38th while Chase Fisher finished the tournament in 46th.
The 4th place finish was NGU's fifth consecutive top five finish dating back to September 22nd. North Greenville's next tournament will be in friendly territory, as the Crusaders will play host at the second annual Cliffs Intercollegiate held at Mountain Park in Travelers Rest, South Carolina scheduled for March 23rd and 24th.
