Hickory, N.C.—The North Greenville Men’s Golf Team wrapped up its fall schedule on Tuesday afternoon, placing fourth at the Rock Bridge Invitational Division II Fall Preview.
The 13th ranked Crusaders put together a strong final showing for the 2014 portion of the schedule, adding a fourth straight top five finish which also includes two first place finishes. North Greenville was led by senior Tucker MacDonald who turned in his best finish of the fall, finishing tied for third place after shooting a team low 146. MacDonald shot a 74 on day one, but improved on day two posting a 72.
Christian Constance deposited North Greenville’s only other top 25 finish, earning the 22nd spot with a +7 151 after 36 holes. Constance shot a 75 and 76 on Monday and Tuesday. The Crusaders, also ranked 23 in another pole, struggled slightly on day one, as two players shot in the 80’s. Sam Goodnight posted an 85 after the opening 18 while Chase Fisher shot an 83. Both players would rebound however improving by at least five strokes. Goodnight bounced back in a big way, improving by 13 strokes and shooting a day two 72 while Fisher improved seven strokes, shooting a 76.
Evan Gfeller was NGU’s fifth qualifier, turning in a 41st place finish shooting a 75 and 80 for a two day total of 155. North Greenville also shaved strokes as a team from day one to day two. The Crusaders shot a 307 on day one, their first time over the 300 mark since last season. They improved by double-digits on day two however, shooting a 296.
The Crusaders have officially wrapped up the 2014 portion of their schedule after Tuesday’s final round at the Rock Bridge Invite. NGU will turn its attention toward February of 2015 when the official NCAA calendar starts with the Newberry Invitational on the 16th and 17th at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
